Valer Popa

… is a Romanian-born writer of fiction and nonfiction. He was a finalist for the New Directions Novel Prize, and his essays have appeared in The New York Times, Chicago Magazine, Epoch, The Believer, and elsewhere. He teaches Creative Writing at the University of Chicago.

Donato Loia

… is a writer and academic. He is the author of 1095 Short Sentences (B-Side Editions, 2024), and his writing has appeared in Religion and the Arts, New Blackfriars, The Brooklyn Rail, and elsewhere. Born in Italy, he is currently a visiting assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Meghann Plunkett

… is a poet and screenwriter. Her debut chapbook, What We Did to Her Made the Water Rise (Black Lawrence Press, 2025) won the 2023 Black River Contest. She was also a winner of the Missouri Review Editors’ Prize and the Third Coast Poetry Prize. She writes for television on shows such as Station 19, and Rebel and is working on a screen adaptation of the novel First Lie Wins. She holds an MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and lives in Los Angeles.

Pete Segall

… writes fiction and nonfiction. His work has appeared in Conjunctions, Chicago Magazine, the Adroit Journal, the Arkansas International, and elsewhere. He holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and lives in Chicago with his dog, Leonard.

Sarah Peecher

… is a poet and author of the chapbook Keeling (Finishing Line Press, 2025). Her poems have appeared in Heavy Feather Review, Agapanthus, Bluestem, and elsewhere. She was a Nathan Breitling Poetry Fellow and curates multiple arts and literary projects, including Off the Page: Poetry Reimagined and several zines. A native of Champaign-Urbana, she currently lives in Chicago, where she teaches English at Roosevelt University.
